Depicted above is a blue highlighted image of a human rib. Highlighted in red is a section of this particular rib in which is fractured or broken. While many of us give little to no thought to the function of our ribs, they possess one of the most important functions of the entire human body: protecting the highly delicate lungs and heart. While ribs all seem to be the same, humans actually have three different types of ribs, differing in structure and function. Just as ribs act as a sort of “unsung hero” in their function as a valiant protector of such important organs, I strive to be kind and do the right thing, regardless of the praise or notoriety I receive.
